I often feel poetic when I’m photographing – perhaps it is because it is my passion and I get to view through a lens that is special, unique, and personal. Every day, stories unfold before my eyes and often I am helping to craft these stories and yet sometimes, they craft themselves and leave an unexpected impact. That happened to me.
Whenever I find myself needing time to pray, meditate and especially on the days that I feel lonely, and isolated – I like to feel the warmth of the sun and the beauty around me to reground all of me. Being still in the warm sun relaxes me. It’s on those days, when I just feel alone in this not so big world.
At times, you can feel like there is a HUGE boulder in front of you keeping you from what you want most and you find yourself heavy-hearted, overwhelmed and alone.
When I slow down enough to feel the feels and pause, a new vantage point can give perspective. Then we come to realize that we have more strength around us than we ever thought we did and that strength comes from many places. Colleagues, friends, family, even strangers. Sometimes, we just need to look at things a little different. When you feel isolated or stuck in your business, what’s your plan? How do you press forward? As a business owner, are we only accountable to ourselves? I’d like to suggest that we are accountable to our community and our tribe. This perspective (or vantage point) helps us see that we are not alone and the world is waiting for us to reach out and sometimes simply share what we need. Oh, that sounds tough right – professional business people, successful, a lot of friends – sharing what we need? Imagine – help could just be on the other side of the boulder (or Lotus) that’s blocking your mind, heart and soul. Help is literally on the other side so I encourage you to step back, ask for help, explore the possibilities and together, let’s create something so impactful that you’ll change your own perspective on your place in the world right now.
When we finally open our hearts and minds, the boulders turn into little pebbles and the journey isn’t as tough as we thought.

About the image
It was a day that I needed to clear my head and I grabbed my camera and hiked to a beloved large pond where I knew the lotus flowers flourished and spent time enjoying their beauty. I saw this frog staring at the lotus flower and it stopped me enough to sit, watch and then capture this little guy staring at this gorgeous flower. I felt its loneliness for a few moments and then as I got up to walk a few steps further, I saw what was waiting on the other side – a new vantage point that touched my spirit.
The lotus flower is known as a symbol of purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth.
